Congratulations to Melissa Thone of Chichester, who graduated from
Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree
in chemical engineering from RIT’s Kate Gleason College of
Engineering.
Chichester’s Old Home Day is less than a month away.
This year’s theme is “Wide World of Sports.” If your family or
organization would like to participate in the parade with a float,
vehicle, or marching entry, please contact Ann Davis by phone at
603-903-3891 or by e-mail at
[email protected]. There is paperwork that needs to be filled out. The
parade will form at Chichester Central School and proceed up one
side of Route 28 to Carpenter Road, just past Carpenter Park.
Plans for Friday Night of Old Home Day, August 15, include the
Scavenger Hunt, music by the North Woods Playboys, and Fireworks.
Please spread the word that the Fireworks will be on Friday night
this year. We wouldn’t want people to arrive on Saturday and find
that they were 24 hours too late.
We couldn’t pull together an Antique Car Show for Friday, August 15,
but if anyone with an antique car would like to cruise on over and
park in the upper parking lot at Carpenter Park from 6 to 8 p.m.
we’d be delighted to have you. Antique cars are also welcome in the
Old Home Day Parade on Saturday morning. Cars in the Saturday parade
will be judged. Friday night is just for fun.

Friends & Neighbors:
In his candidacy letter, Richard DeBold guarantees you that he will
continue Sally Kelly’s “great work”, while also stating that the
prior legislature lacked common sense, bipartisanship and civility.
As the person who received the most votes in Chichester in the last
two elections and who served in that prior legislature, I must
correct the record.
In Sally Kelly’s first four years, she voted for the largest budget
increase (almost 25%) in N.H. history. She increased your state and
county taxes while ignoring the effects of the recession on you. She
voted to significantly increase government regulation on you and on
local businesses.
When I entered the N.H. House, we faced a huge deficit due to
overspending – Governor Lynch even had to ask the legislature for
more money to operate. The deficit forced us to cut the budget
because we refused to raise your taxes like Sally Kelly did. For
the first time in almost 50 years, we cut the budget, over Democrat
protests. When I left the legislature, N.H. had a balanced budget,
government regulations were reduced, your civil liberties had
increased AND we had a $72 million surplus in the rainy day fund!
Did you notice the historic decrease in your county taxes?
This term, Sally Kelly again voted for an excessive budget that
irresponsibly used casino tax revenue before a casino was even
approved! Richard’s “bipartisan budget” claim is bunk, as the
Republican Senate killed the excessive Democratic House budget, and
the Senate held fast until eventually Sally had no option but to
vote for the Senate budget.
This is what Richard DeBold vows to continue – so if you want higher
taxes and more government regulation, he is your guy! Oh and your
$72 million surplus – it’s all gone!

Chichester Town Library News
The bicycle raffles continue throughout the summer. With Fall
approaching, a good bicycle is perfect for riding around campus, the
neighborhood, parks or rails-to-trails. One is designed for a woman
and one for a man. Don’t miss this opportunity to bid on one or
both of the bicycles.
There will be a free, family movie matinee in the Library’s
Community Meeting Room today, July 30th, at 3 p.m. The Sandlot is a
movie that all will enjoy; and, there’s free popcorn!
Chichester Town Library now has their own version of a computer
guru. Kayla Chagnon, Library Aide, has been helping numerous
patrons with learning to download books onto Kindles or other
e-readers. She’s also good with smart phones and computers. And
for those “of a certain age,” Kayla can act as our guide with social
media. Please call the Library to make an appointment or stop in
and see if she has time to help you. Thanks, Kayla!
Rumor has it that the Library will host a book group,
starting in the Fall. Kayla will be facilitating. Please let her
know you are interested by calling 603-798-5613 or e-mail
[email protected].
There’s still time to enjoy what our area has to offer and the
Library has discounted (or free) admission tickets. If you want to
go to Canterbury Shaker Village, see the galleries at the
McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center or the NH Historical Society
Museum in Concord, stop by the Library and ask for the tickets.

School Board defies Town gives raises anyways
At the March School District Meeting the Town voted down what was
seen as excessive raises. Voted down was a contract that would have
paid an almost 20% salary increase to staff over 3 years, costing
the taxpayers an additional $300,000. This was a loud and clear
message to the School Board that 5%-6% annual raises was not going
to be allowed.
Just a month later the School Board authorized $35,000 in surplus to
be given to staff anyways. During the same time period parents were
sent letters asking for them to provide basic supplies for their
children (pencils, crayons, folders), as obviously the school didn’t
have the money for them.
State law requires the board receive authorization from the Town
before they spend any money and can only re-appropriate funds when
“changes arise … that make it necessary.” The Board ignored the
direction given by the Town and indicated their compliance with the
law because this pay increase was “necessary?”
Their definition of “necessary” is very different than mine? How
about yours? This is not about staff or even the raises, this is
about the Board doing what they please while disregarding direction
given to them by the Town, and ignoring the law.
Visit chichester taxpayers.com for additional information and please
attend the August 14th meeting of the Chichester School Board to
voice your opinion to the elected School Board.

Letter To The Editor
I want to tell everyone personally, so I am writing this letter to
tell you it is with deep regret that I submit my letter of
resignation as Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector for the Town of
Chichester.
I’ve been offered a position as Municipal Representative-City of
Concord, which comes with increased hours, pay and scheduled
increases going forward.
It’s hard to believe I’ve worked here for almost 7 years.
I’ve enjoyed working with my co-workers; Evelyn, Jamie, Jodi and
John Freeman. I appreciate all the experience I have gained in my
position, meeting and serving you the residents of Chichester,
working with the Board of Selectmen as well as all the other
Departments and Committees I‘ve interacted with, and the many
FRIENDSHIPS I’ve gained.
I gave my notice on 7/1/14 and 7/18/14 was my last day of my normal
20 hours/week. During the job offer process with Concord I
requested flexibility in my new schedule explaining there are dates
Evelyn has requested and planned to be off and I would like to be
able to cover those dates in Chichester. I know how long it takes
for a new Deputy to be alone. I want to allow Evelyn to keep her
plans and make the transition as smooth as possible for her and the
Town. There are 2 dates in July, one day in Aug and one in Sept.
you may see me working.
I am very sad to be resigning from this position, leaving my
co-workers and the residents I have helped over the years.
I will still be a fellow Chichester resident and may see you around
Town but I wanted to Thank You for your time and the wonderful
experience to serve as Deputy Town Clerk/Tax Collector for the Town
of Chichester.
All my best to all of you,
Anja M. Rodrigues
