The Old Home Day Committee will meet on August 8 at 7 p.m. at
Carpenter Park. In case of pouring rain the meeting will be held at
the Fire Station.
Chichester’s Old Home Day is Saturday, August 17, with set-up and
some events on Friday evening, August 16. This year’s theme is
“Happy Birthday, Carpenter Park” in commemoration of the Town
receiving the land from the Carpenter Family in 1963. If you would
like to be in the parade, call Carol Frekey-Harkness at 798-5443. If
you are able to volunteer for food service or trash pick-up or other
“chores” on the 17th, call Donna Chagnon at 798-5318.
Chichester Grange will be having a Penny Sale on Friday evening,
August 16, at Carpenter Park. Tickets will go on sale at 5:30 p.m.
and numbers will be drawn at 8 p.m. That time frame should allow
Scavenger Hunt participants time to partake of the Penny Sale as
well.
Donations for the Two Pound Table at Old Home Day may be dropped off
at Frekey’s Dairy Freeze during open hours up until 8 p.m. on August
15. Items must weigh two pounds and be of some use to the person who
will win that item.
The Chichester Heritage Commission and the Chichester Photography
Group have collaborated on an exhibit called “Chichester Historic
Main Street Architectural Features.” The exhibit may be viewed at
the Grange/Town Hall at 54 Main Street on Saturday, August 17, from
1:30 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Light
refreshments will be served on Saturday.
The Historical Society’s Picnic at Thunder Bridge on Depot Road,
which was rained out in July, will now be held on Sunday, August 18,
from 3-5 p.m. Bring your sandwich and a lawn chair and visit with
friends and neighbors at this historic spot. The Historical Society
will provide beverages, dessert, and watermelon. If it should rain
this time, the picnic will be cancelled.

Sale on men’s shorts- 25¢ each! We also have logo tee shirts great
for gardening, painting, etc.; any hard work for 25¢ each! There
are soccer cleats for kids, some sneakers and back to school shoes
for boys.

First Biennial Historic Chichester Garden Tour A Great Success!

Chichester Garden Club
On behalf of the Chichester Garden Club, I wish to thank you for the
coverage of our first biennial Historic Chichester Garden Tour held
on July 20, 2013. It was a great success! Calculations indicate we
had nearly 50 attendees, most of whom had read the front page
article in The Suncook Valley Sun.
There were rave reviews about the Monet theme sidewalk café, the
floral art exhibition with garden books and plant sale orchestrated
by Lucille Carson Noel - what a great idea and a sincere thank you.
All this was enjoyed to the relaxing violin of Audrey Danielson. We
wish to thank our sponsors, those who attended, and the many
volunteers who baked, cooked, set-up, served, cleaned, loaned tents
and furniture, picked up and returned furniture and put up signs.
Also, we thank and acknowledge the efforts made by the Chichester
Police Department to control traffic. As many of you know, a
surprise storm the night before took down lines and trees, and as it
would happen, across two of the roads in the middle of the Garden
Tour. Thanks to our Road Agent who quickly reopened the roads.
A thank you to the contributing artists: 9 year old, Rivkah Valley,
who paints in the Monet style; local artists Frank Curatolo and Dick
Pratt; and photographic artist Barbara Pappas. And last, and
certainly not least, the 12 Host Site owners - Memorial Gardens
(Chichester Grange), Barbara Frangione, Debbie Marden, Kay and John
Snow, Nancy and Gene Smith (Aradeena Gardens), Frank Curatolo, Daisy
Day, Martha Reinhardt, Patty Humphrey, NH Farm Sanctuary, Kathy
Holmes and Historical Society - all who generously donated their
time, efforts and energy during a very hot spell to share their
lovely gardens with others.
A Host Site list has already been started for 2015. We hope to
include a garden designed for children, a garden constructed and
maintained by an elementary child(ren) and another by a young adult
gardener.
This event was very important as the ticket proceeds are be divided
among five Chichester organizations: Garden and Photography Clubs,
Heritage Commission, Historical Society and Town Library. It was a
heartwarming experience to work with such fine groups; all enjoyed
working together, and some of us have become good friends. It also
shows what can be accomplished when we work together for a common
goal.
The Chichester Garden Club meets at 7 pm, the 4th Wednesday of every
month at the Town Library, 161 Main St. The business meeting is 7-8
pm. Members may mingle until 8:30 when the Library closes. The
public is welcome and we are actively seeking new members as we have
civic and beautification projects coming up. Come visit us at our
booth on Saturday, August 17 at Chichester Old Home Days held at
Carpenter Park (Bear Hill Road off Route 28). Thank you again.
