Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, September 4, upstairs in the Grange Hall.

Thanks to all who helped with Chichester’s Old Home Day on August 16 and 17. We hope to see you all again in 2014.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News

Submitted By Carol Hendee

Good news! The Attic will remain open. Funds to carry out all the programs were depleted, cut backs have to be made, but the shop will remain open. We heard from many people just how important the Attic is providing clothing and various types of household items for families.

We could use an infusion of jewelry for the fall. If you like Elmo or Eeyore, come to the store. We have a special collection of Eeyore stuffies. We are at 345 Suncook Valley Highway, Chichester and are open Mon. 8-12; Tues. and Thurs. 8-4; Wed 11-4; Sat. 10-4. You can call us at 247-7191.

Chichester Town Library News

As of this writing, it looks like the “Dig into Reading” winning age group is the 8-12 year olds.  Congratulations!  The winners will be treated to a movie night in September.  All participants are actually winners in this program and congratulations are extended to all of them, too.

Hundreds of bookmarks were given out at Old Home Day, so the Library expects lots of books to be selected from the “Down Under” used book section by the holders of those bookmarks.

Save the date of September 20th, starting at 7 pm for Jeff Warner, for  “Music in my Pockets: Family Fun in Folk Music.”  This program features Jeff Warner and is funded by the Humanities Council.  More information on this event will appear in the future.

The Library tries to communicate with the public in a variety of ways.  In addition to the newspaper, we also have a Facebook page that allows for almost instant communication with those who have “Liked” the page, which then allows for further sharing. To help get the word out to more of the community, we are asking Chichester residents and others who have an interest in the Chichester Town Library to “Like” our page. Just go to the Chichester Town Library on Facebook - the one with a likeness of the Library on it - and hit “Like.”

Chichester Grange

Chichester Grange met on August 21 at the Grange Hall for the first time since June 19. There was much to share about events during the summer.

Mary West participated in the Public Speaking contest at two Grange Youth events in June. She took first place in her age group in the New Hampshire contest and second place in the Northeast contest.

Anne, Marty, and Rebecca Boisvert, Hannah West, and Mary West travelled to Elk River, Minnesota in early July to participate in a Grange event at the Kelley Farm there. Oliver Hudson Kelley was one of the seven founders of the Grange. His farm is operated by the Minnesota Historical Society as a working farm of the 19th century with historical interpreters and special events. On July 14, Grange youth from all over the country presented degree work as it would have been done at the time the Grange was founded. Anne Boisvert and Mary West were officers in the First Degree along with others from the Northeast Region.

On July 17, Chichester Grange members and their families enjoyed an eat-out at the Windmill Restaurant in Concord. Arlene Weeks and Christine Mobbs were presented with 75-year membership certificates at the eat-out. A sixty-five year membership seal was presented to Jeanne Watson at her home in Pittsfield.

Hannah West, Kevin Belval, and Mary West took part in the Northeast Lecturer’s Conference on August 5-7 in New Haven, Connecticut. Kevin wrote the New Hampshire Program which was very well received.

Chichester Grange had a strong presence at Chichester’s Old Home Day this year. The Grange float won first prize in the parade. Children were able to decorate cupcakes at the Grange Booth, and Anne Boisvert drew the picture for the Secret Spot Activity. The Friday night Penny Sale was enjoyed by a small but enthusiastic group of participants.

Members voted a donation to Heifer International of enough money to purchase a biofuel stove and a pig for use in a third world country. Most of the money for this donation came from recycling aluminum cans.

Planning for the future, a date of November 2 was set for the annual Christmas theme Penny Sale. More details will be discussed at a future meeting.

The meeting closed with refreshments provided by Hannah West. The next meeting will be September 4th.
