Letter

Recently, my husband and I were having a nice dinner with friends at the Weathervane Restaurant located in Chichester on Route 4. After our dinner, my husband, who recently started using insulin, went into a diabetic coma. The restaurant employees were very helpful in keeping us and other patrons of the restaurant calm as we called and waited for the Chichester rescue. They cleared the way to make it easier for the rescue personnel to get in to assist with my husband. There was a gentleman sitting in a booth nearby who also came to help lay my husband on the floor while we waited for the rescue and I wish we had gotten his name to send him a proper thank you!

Fortunately, my husband is fine. We would sincerely like to thank the manager and staff at the Weathervane for all their help and kindness, the Chichester Rescue personnel, who were fabulous as well and of course our good friends for all the help. The rescue personnel were very polite, knowledgeable and caring. We are very proud to live in the town of Chichester!

Thank you,

Connie and Ed Leduke

Chichester Grange News

Chichester Grange met at the Grange Hall on Wednesday, March 6. Resolutions in memory of Ed Wladkowski were read and copies will be mailed to his family. The dictionaries for Barnstead School have arrived and will be presented to the third graders on March 19. A spring Penny Sale is being planned for May 18 as weekends are very full in April.

During the program, members shared what they had learned about some of the inventions we use every day as well as some newer technology. Some of the items covered were Nibroc paper towels (invented in Berlin, NH), Band-Aids, Matches, bean bag chairs, and ten small but mighty inventions like zippers and duct tape, which have changed modern life. One of the newer inventions was a process which involved planting seeds and providing moisture at the same time to combine a two-step process into one step.

The next meeting will be March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Grange Hall.

Chichester’s Road Plan

As the ex-officio Selectmen member serving on the Chichester Road Advisory Committee, (RAC) I can attest to the many hours of hard work and dedication put into the Committee’s task of developing a comprehensive long range Road Management Plan for the Town of Chichester. The 2012 Road Management Plan presents the Committee’s proposal which will put the Town on a sustainable path for keeping the Town’s paved roads in good shape for safe and comfortable travel.

An undeniable fact is that a large number of Chichester’s paved roads are in very  poor condition.  The primary reason for our Town’s roads being in poor and deteriorating conditions is two fold. The lack of a well founded long range plan and the commitment by the Town to annually  funds the necessary repair and reconstruction projects to upgrade the Town’s roads.

The RAC’s 2012 Road Management Plan (on the Town’s website) has developed a detailed plan outlining the commitment necessary for the Town to ‘get back on track’ with a yearly road repair and reconstruction program. The basis of this commitment is that with 24 miles of paved roads in Chichester, there is a need for the yearly reconstruction of 1.2 miles to meet the needs of deteriorating roads, which have a normal life span of 20 years. It is estimated that the annual costs for a commitment of reconstructing 1.2 miles of paved roads per year will be approximately $374,000 per year in current years dollars.

The Road Advisory Committee highly recommends the townspeople of Chichester consider the Committee’s  proposed plan for a long term/yearly commitment of dedicated funds for road reconstruction to ensure that the Town’s paved roads are sustained in good condition and support this proposal at Town Meeting on March 16th.
