Chichester Central School

Kindergarten/New First Graders Invited to Register

Do you have a kindergarten child (or a first grader new to Chichester Central) entering in the fall and are unsure what to do?  Kindergarten/new grade 1 registration will begin on January 28 and run until February 22. Registration must be done in person between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm at the school. Parents will be asked to supply a copy of the birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of residency. The age requirement for entry is age 5 (kindergarten) and age 6 (grade 1) by September 30.

Children will go through a screening process in May that will allow the kindergarten committee to assess abilities so that the morning and afternoon groups will be evenly balanced.

Transportation is provided to school in the morning and at 2:40 (there is no mid-day transportation).  The New Morning School does provide an on-site after-school program for a minimal cost until 5:45.  Parents can call Mrs. Plunkett at 798-5651 for more information.

Chichester Grange News

Chichester Grange met on January 16 upstairs in the Grange Hall. The meeting was preceded by the annual soup supper. Members enjoyed three kinds of soup (chicken noodle, clam chowder, and ginger carrot), bread, crackers, fruit, and cookies.

The business meeting was called to order at 7 pm by Master Kevin Belval. Members assessed the success of the apple pie fundraiser at Christmas time, which was a lot of work but produced ten excellent pies and made a fifty percent profit once supplies were deducted.

Thank you notes from Pittsfield and Epsom third graders were shared. The students are enjoying the dictionaries they received in December. Dictionaries were delivered to Northwood third graders after the Christmas vacation. It was voted to provide dictionaries for Barnstead this year as Meredith Village Savings Bank is stepping back from the project for the 2012-13 school year.

On the State Grange scene there will be a Winter Youth Rally at the State Grange Building in Hooksett on Saturday, February 2, with a full day of activities for young people and adults.

Wildlife sightings included many winter birds such as cardinals and chickadees, as well as wild turkeys, squirrels, and coyotes.

The program presented by Lecturer Alice Hilliard contained quotes and facts on George Washington Carver. It tied in well with Chichester Grange’s informal theme of Inventors  and Inventions and recognized Black History Month.

The next meeting will be February 6 at 7 pm. The program will be Show And Tell.
