Library on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21 from 6:00 to 8:00PM for a HOLIDAY
SING-ALONG with Frank Curatolo at the keyboard. Frank will play
your favorite Yuletide songs as you join in celebrating the Holiday
Season with an evening of music and fun. We’ll have some nice hot
coffee and free refreshments and perhaps a special surprise. Take a
break from your busy holiday schedule and bring a friend for a
little fun and relaxation. See you there!!!
The
Chichester Historical Society invites you to a Holiday Open House on
Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. Come take a leisurely tour
of the Museum at 49 Main Street and enjoy some refreshments. See the
1950’s exhibit and many other historical items from Chichester’s
past.

A
special thanks to the two people who brought in bags of flannel
shirts. To say they were well received is an understatement and on
their way to a new home in record time!

with insulation for now-5 mi. from The Epsom Circle-Mon. 8-12; Tues.
& Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 Sat. 10-4 (non holiday weeks) 247-7191- we
are closed when school is cancelled due to a storm.
New Arrivals At The Chichester Town Library
December is “Read a New Book Month,” and the Library has just
purchased some new books for readers’ enjoyment:
Battle
of the Ampere, by Richard Paul Evans, is part of a series of fantasy
novels featuring an unlikely hero, Michael Vey. Not exactly one of
the cool kids in school, Michael becomes involved in some really
intensive adventures.
The
Autistic Brain: Thinking across the Spectrum, by Temple Grandin,
addresses what has been described as a neurological epidemic and
addresses what a different type of brain can contribute to society.
Eating
on the Wild Side: The Missing Link to Optimum Health, by Jo
Robinson, looks at fifteen years of research in the fields of food
and nutrition and synthesizes them for the reader. The author is a
veteran journalist and a food activist.
Gulp:
Adventures on the Alimentary Canal, by Mary Roach, who has been
called “America’s funniest science writer,” looks at what happens
after we eat something.
Happily
Ever After: The Life-Changing Power of a Grateful Heart, by Trista
Sutter, speaks to how gratitude can transform your life. The author
was the very first star of “The Bachlorette” and has been
successfully married for ten years to her choice of spouses, Ryan
Sutter.
Husbands Secret, by Liane Moriarty, is a New York Times #1
Bestseller. Described as a great vacation-read, it is expected to
be turned into a movie. Read it at the Library, first!
Ocean
at the End of the Lane, by Neil Gaiman, is an adult fairy tale from
at author considered as the modern master of wonder and terror.
Orphan
Train: A Novel, by Christina Baker Kline, uses the orphan trains,
which ran for 75 years in the US, as the focus of her book about
cultural identity and family history.
The
Republic of Thieves, by Scott Lynch, is a New York Times Bestseller
and has been described as “thrillingly inventive, wildly funny,
suspense-filled…featuring con artist extraordinaire Locke Lamora.”
Rosie
Project, by Graeme Simsion, is a romantic comedy of a brilliant yet
socially challenged man’s rigidly constrained existence as a
professor of genetics which is disrupted by an impulsive and
uninhibited woman.
Shadow
on the Crown, by Patricia Bracewell, is a novel of historical
fiction based in 11th century England and is the first book of an
anticipated trilogy.

Chichester Town Library News
Wednesday, the 18th, at 6:30 p.m. is the last meeting before the
holiday of the Crafting Club. Adults and teens can bring their
projects to work on or finish up before Christmas.
The
raffle drawing for a holiday apple pie and cookbook will be held on
December 21, so there’s still time to buy your tickets. Delivery
will be on Monday the 23rd, just in time for your holiday guests.
Proceeds from the raffle(s) and book sales raise funds for the
Chichester Town Library.
What
are the holidays without caroling? Thanks to Frank Curatolo, the
Library will be hosting a holiday sing-a-long on Saturday, December
21st from 6-8 p.m. at the Library. Santa Claus is still planning to
join the festivities, if his schedule of toy making and reading
letters permits! Cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and tea will round
out the festive atmosphere of the evening!
Story
and Crafts for the younger set will not be held on Monday, December
23rd; however, the “Down Cellar Writers” will meet at 7 p.m.
The
Library will be closed on December 24th and 25th.

Obituaries
John F.
Purington
John F.
Purington, 70, passed away on November 20, 2013 in his home. He was
the companion and best friend of Sandra Foresta of Swampscott.
Born in
Beverly on March 31, 1943, he was the son of the late John P. and
Alma M. (Glenn) Purington. John was raised and educated in
Manchester-by-the-Sea and graduated from Story High School. John
had been employed as a supervisor at GTE Sylvania and was a member
of the Quarter Century Club having worked there for over 30 years.
He also was employed at Whirlaway Golf Center in Methuen for the
last 20 years.
Besides
his dear friend Sandra, he is survived by his only child, daughter
Wendy Purington Despres, his son-in-law Lee, his grandson Colby and
his granddaughter Camdyn all of Chichester, NH, his only sibling,
sister Donna Rogers and her husband Bill of Saugus, his nephew Dana
Rogers and his niece Kerri Harris, his former wife Gail A. Purington
of Concord, NH, his three grand nieces and nephews and extended
family.
A
Funeral Mass to honor John F. Purington was celebrated at 9AM on
Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church,
24 Conant St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Annunciation
Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers. Visiting hours were Nov. 25th from
4-8PM at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers.
In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in John’s
name to the American Red Cross, 139 Main St., Cambridge, MA, 02142.
