Chichester Town Library News
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle are familiar to most people,
but philosophers like Thales, Heraclitus, Xenophanes, and
Anaximander are much less widely known. If you would like to learn
more about these fascinating thinkers and discuss how their
philosophies can be applied to contemporary life, come join us at
the Chichester Library (798-5613) on Tuesday, October 2, from 7:00
to about 9:00. The event, moderated by Jimmy Pappas (798-3410), is
free and open to the public.
The
Chichester Garden Club will be held on Wed. Sept. 26th at 7:00.
Bring your Fall garden questions. The September and October raffle
is on display. It is a wood basket, filled with cookbooks, placemats
and matching napkins, kitchen towels and Rada cutlery. Tickets are
50¢ each or 3 for $1.00. Help support our on-going renovations to
the basement.
Toddler Time continues on Tuesdays at 9:30.
Our
librarian will be attending an Overdrive Workshop on downloadable
books on September 26th. If that is something you would like to
learn about, call the library at 798-5613 and setup a time or drop
by. Library hours are Mon. and Wed. 2:30-8:30; Tues. and Thurs.
10-1:30; Fri. 1:30-4:30 and Sat. 9-12.
On
September 27th, our librarian will be at the Chichester Central
School for a story-telling presentation.
The
garage portion of the basement is open for book sales when the
library is open. If a book does not have a price on it, please
check with the librarian for the price at time of purchase.
If
you remember and love the old folk songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s, you
will not want to miss this evening. On Friday, October 5th, at 7:00
at the Grange Hall, the Chichester Town Library is hosting our first
musical program for adults.
Gary Brandt and Jackie Miller Davidson (formerly of the New Christy
Minstrals), will bring us a program titled, “Singing the Good Old
Songs Again.”
The
program combines ‘classic and original folk songs into an energetic,
entertaining, fun show.’
There is lots of audience interaction, participation and humor,
along with personal insight and stories about the songs they sing.
We
will hear the old songs written and performed by Chapin, Denver,
Lightfoot, Croce, Dylan, Guthrie, Seeger, Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul
and Mary, The New Christy Minstrels... and many more. For more
info on the this event go to their website:
jackieandgary.com.
Although the show is free, we’d like you to let us know if you’ll be
attending by calling 798-5613.
