Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee
Thrift shops like ours received a boost from an article in the
Monitor entitled "On the Mend."
It’s about a new book "Mend It Better." It is about how people are
finding clothes (vintage and modern) at thrift stores that need a
little "mending." This includes adding pieces of material to jeans
to make them "yours" or sewing a badge or applique on a top and
bleaching jeans like tie-dye. Taking clothes that may even have a
tear and adding new life to them with your special touch.
Remember, we have a monthly sale on clothing items that have been in
the store for a couple of months for 25¢ each (name brands not
included) For 25¢ you can make a jean purse, colorful patches for
other garments, anything you want!
Just check the sign on the counter for the color tag. July is black.
This sale helps us keep clothing moving and helps your budget!
We are on Route 28, in Chichester, near the Pittsfield line and we
are open on Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4 and Sat.
10-4. You can call us 247-7191.
Chichester Heritage Commission’s My Favorite Tree Contest
Do you have a favorite tree on your property? Have you spotted a
beautiful tree along one of Chichester’s roads? If so, the
Chichester Heritage Commission is looking for your photo of that
tree. Although, we often take our natural landscape heritage for
granted, just imagine what it would be like without our trees!
So here are the guidelines: take a photo of a tree that "speaks to
you". Indicate the kind of tree (maple, oak, etc.), label the back
with your name and phone number, also note the property or road
where the tree is located.
Photos will be displayed at the Commission’s tent at Old Home Day,
August 18th. Chichester’s favorite tree will be chosen by popular
vote, and the winner will be announced at 1:00 pm during OHD.
Send your photo, no larger than 8 X 10, to Chichester Heritage
Commission, 54 Main St. Chichester. Photos may also be emailed to
[email protected] ,
or given to any Commission member. For more information call Lucille
at 798-5709 or Michelle at 731-6034.
One photo per person, please.
