Reminder
Chichester Police Department has applications for assistance this
Christmas. If you are a Chichester resident and your child is 18 or
younger, please stop by and get an application for each child, fill
it out completely and return to the Chichester Police Department.
Call 798-4911 with any questions. Applications can be picked up at
the Town Hall or Police Department and must be returned by December
14, 2012.
Chichester’s Christmas Tree lighting will be Friday, November 30,
from 6:30 to 7:30 at Carpenter Park. Santa will arrive in a fire
truck at 6:45 and the tree will be lit at 7 pm. There will be hot
chocolate and cookies and a children’s craft activity. This event is
sponsored by the Chichester Old Home Day Committee, the Chichester
Firefighters Association, the Chichester/Epsom Lions Club, and
Chichester Grange.
Chichester Grange will hold a Penny Sale with a Christmas theme on
Saturday, December 1, at the Grange/Town Hall. Tickets will go on
sale at 10 am and numbers will be drawn beginning at 11:30 am. A
lunch of soup and bread will be sold to those who wish to eat while
they listen for their number.
Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, December 5, at 7 pm
upstairs in the Grange Hall. It will be the planning meeting for
2013, so members should bring ideas for programs they would like to
experience.
The work at Carpenter Park on the new ball fields and public area
revealed some drainage problems. Fortunately Frank Merrill has
experience with such matters and was able to come up with a way to
fix it. The good news is that the drainage problems seem to be
solved. The bad news is that the extra work hours and needed
materials have used up the money planned for further improvements.
If you are one who does year-end giving, please consider Carpenter
Park in your donation plans. If you are unable to give now, consider
saving up and making a donation in 2013, since this year’s
construction season is about over.
Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By
Carol Hendee
The Attic needs a volunteer (or two or three) to occasionally vacuum
the floors and dust the shelves. If three people volunteer, each
could take a room. We would appreciate any time you can spare. Also,
we need a working vacuum. That sure would help with the cleaning.
Christmas gift bags for children have been assembled by the
wonderful elves in Laconia and distribution is happening. If there
are children who did not have their name put on a list, it’s still
possible we may be able to help.
There are some wonderful Christmas items for sale: skates, lights,
wrapping paper, gift bags, Christmas cards, (6 for 25¢!) Christmas
stockings and some cute shirts and baby outfits.
We are on Route 28 Chichester, Mon. 8-12; Tues. and Thurs. 8-4; Wed.
11-1 and Sat. 10-4. You can call us at 247-7191.

Chichester Road Advisory Committee Update
Submitted By John Amsden, Road Advisory Committee Member
The Chichester Road Advisory Committee (the Committee) has developed
an aggressive plan to rehabilitate or reconstruct several segments
of the Town’s paved roads. A public hearing will be held at the
Chichester Town Hall on Monday, December 3rd at 7:00 pm. The
Committee is looking for input from Chichester residents on a new
and extensive rehabilitation/reconstruction plan for Chichester’s
paved roads.
The Committee has been very busy during this past year. A complete
assessment of Chichester’s roads has been completed, which has
provided a much more detailed look at the condition of the roads and
has led the Committee to determine that a much more aggressive plan
will be required to improve the condition of the Town roads over the
coming years.
The Committee recommends that sixteen paved road segments be
reconstructed in the four years 2013 through 2016. These segments
total 5.5 miles (of the town’s 24.1 miles of paved roads). The
Committee estimates that the cost of these projects (in current
dollars) is about $1.53 million. The funding of this effort will
require a considerable amount of taxpayer dollars.
Please join the Committee on Monday, December 3rd to discuss this
important project.
Public Informational Letter
Meeting
Chichester’s Road Advisory Committee
The Chichester Road Advisory Committee (RAC) plays an important role
assisting the Board of Selectmen, the Budget Committee and the
Capital Improvements Program Committee in the development of the
Town’s budget and Warrant to be presented at Town Meeting.
The RAC, whose membership is comprised of eight townspeople
including the Road Agent and one Selectman, has dedicated a
considerable amount of time this year to gathering and assessing
valuable information on existing roadway conditions. Roadway
assessment information has also been provided to the Town over the
last couple of years through assistance from the Central N.H.
Regional Planning Commission. All this data has been entered by the
Road Agent into the Town’s new Road Surface Management System (RSMS)
computer program. This RSMS program provides valuable assessment
information which is used by the RAC to determine, and then
establish, a scheduling plan with priorities for major repair and
reconstruction projects.
A draft annual report by the RAC for 2012, which provides a
considerable amount of information on the RAC, it’s goals,
objectives, methods of assessment and data gathering, the RSMS
computer program, and a specific plan for proposed roadway repair
and reconstruction priorities for Chichester has been prepared. The
draft Annual Report of the Road Advisory Committee is now available
on the Town’s website.
On Monday, December 3rd, 7:00 pm at the Grange Hall, the RAC will
hold a Public Informational Meeting to present the draft RAC report
and solicit public input and comments.
As a Selectman, and a member of the RAC, I highly recommend that
you attend the Public Informational Meeting. Our Town roads are one
of our most valuable public assets and it is extremely important
that the Town stays committed to their long term maintenance and
repair.
Selectman Richard DeBold
