Letter

In last Sunday’s Concord Monitor Capital Beat column, I was disappointed but not surprised that two of our area State Representatives and candidates for re-election are supporting Bully O’Brien for speaker of the house. If you need another reason to get out and vote against Brandon Guida (Chichester and Pembroke) and Carol McGuire (Allenstown, Epsom and Pittsfield) consider their continued support for O’Brien; who handed big tobacco companies tens of millions of dollars in giveaways (HB2) that cost the State of New Hampshire over $20 million in lost revenue at a time when it is desperately needed.

Guida and McGuire have pledged their support for two more years of divisive and failed politics which has not served the families who are struggling to make ends meet.

As voters, we have sensible choices on November 6th to restore balance and ethics back to the legislature so they can focus on real solutions to serious problems rather than chase personal agendas. If ever there was a need for common sense in the legislature, it is now.  In Merrimack District 29 (Allenstown, Epsom, Pittsfield), please consider your vote for Nancy Heath.  In Merrimack 20 (Chichester, Pembroke) please join me in voting for Frank Davis, Sally Kelly and Dianne Schuett. I know they will not vote for Bully O’Brien for speaker.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee

To say that we have been busy is an understatement. Customers and donations have been excellent. However, I would ask that the donations in the big black bags be not quite so heavy. Try and remember who has to handle them; ladies over 65 (one younger) but it is hard to lift those heavy bags.

Here is your chance to buy a cute Halloween costume at 1/2 price for the rest of October! There are little costumes for the preschool ages in the first room; in the third room are bigger sizes, hanging up on the wall with the shoes. There are also dresses that can be changed into something eerie, wigs, witches hats and assorted tops, all 1/2 price thru October.  Check out the pumpkin buckets and other decorations in the window. They are for sale too! Greeting cards have been arranged and are on the kitchen item shelf.

Also, this month, you get a free piece of glassware with every purchase. Jewelry has come in and, if you want it, you get a little box free with every purchase while supplies last.

We’re on Route 28. We’re open Mon. 8-12; Tues. and Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4.  Our phone number is 247-7191.

Letter To The Editor

It is sometimes a thankless job to be in the Legislature, but the vituperative attacks by many current State Representatives and especially the current leadership on people, on progress and on the very purpose of governing, makes the need for change imperative.

I have been appalled by the current legislature’s assaults on the rights of women and workers in particular, and disagree with many of their fiscal and other policy decisions.

Let’s eliminate the discord and disrespect that now characterize politics in New Hampshire. I urge you to use your vote for State Representatives to get a more thoughtful, deliberative and humane Legislature – vote for Frank Davis, Dianne Schuett and Sally Kelly on November 6.

Letter To The Editor

To the residents of Chichester and Pembroke:
I would like to strongly urge you to vote for the “team” of Kelly, Schuett and Davis for our legislative district. Sally Kelly, Dianne Schuett and Frank Davis have served us in the recent past and worked together to bring us legislation that was thoughtfully considered, reasonable, common sense and compassionate.

As the past few years have shown us, a legislature dominated by extremists of a Tea Party mentality is not beneficial, and in many cases, is actually harmful to the residents of New Hampshire. Governor Lynch’s veto pen saved us from a few of the most outrageous proposals, but others were pushed through, such as allowing concealed weapons in public places and massive cuts to education and human services. It is my belief that each and every one of us has been touched in a positive way by one or more state services and programs. Programs for the elderly and children and well maintained roads and bridges are but a few of the ways we all benefit.

As someone mentioned on public radio recently it is not less government that we need, it is better government. We will not get better government with the majority of those present in the legislature at this time.
