Chichester NH News

March 9, 2011

Don’t forget the Town Meeting on Saturday, March 12, starting at 10 a.m. at the Chichester Central School. Come ahead of time enough to pick up your voting card from the Supervisors of the Checklist.

The Chichester Youth Association will be holding their monthly meeting on Sunday, March 13th at 6pm in the Selectmen’s office.  With baseball and softball season right around the corner, please take this opportunity to stop by a meeting and see what you can do to help make this a season to remember.

On March 14th at 7 pm, the Chichester Historical Society will present “History of the Chichester Country Store and House: Architectural Finds During Restoration/Renovation.” Ron Panneton, owner of the Chichester Country Store, will give a power point presentation about the building, which has been a place of business in Chichester since 1847. The program will be held at the Historical Museum on 49 Main Street. It is free and open to the public.

Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, March 16th, at 7:00 pm, upstairs in the Grange Hall. Come on up and find out what Grange is all about.

Happy birthday to Kara Merrill on March 10.

The Chichester Heritage Commission and the Chichester Town Library will sponsor a Sky Watch program on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at the Chichester Central School at 219 Main Street from 7 to 9 pm.   This free, beginner-friendly program will include a presentation  “Viewing the Night Sky” by a member of the NH Astronomical Society and observation of the night sky using a telescope and binoculars.  Dress warmly and bring a flashlight that uses red light. (You can cover a regular flashlight with red plastic, tail-light repair kit tape, or a brown paper bag.) Please register for this program at the Town Library so the presenters will have an idea of how many to expect.

The CYA is accepting registrations for T-Ball, Baseball and Softball for this coming season.  If you have a child who will be attending Kindergarten in the fall, that child is eligible to play T-Ball this spring.  This is a great opportunity for the children to get to know others with whom they will be going to school.  Registration forms are available at www.chichesteryouth.com. Please take this opportunity to get them in ASAP so that teams can be organized and equipment purchased.

The following DVDs have recently been added to the collection at the Chichester Town Library: Now You See Him Now You Don’t (Disney), The Happiest Millionaire (Disney), Elmo in Grouchland, A Simply Wish, The Strongest Man in the World (Disney),The Wiggles, Emma, and The Englishman. If audios are what you enjoy, try  Happy Ever After by Nora Roberts or Learn Japanese.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee

Much of the time, the shop is filled with smiles and laughter.  Every now and then, something very special really brings out a Big Huge smile.

A young couple came in, looking for Little Golden books; they were from Dover.  They were looking for a particular golden book for their baby.  I asked how old the baby was, and she said she was 5 months pregnant.

They wanted a book she had as a child and had been to many thrift and antique stores between Dover and us with no luck.  We had the book!  It was from the 70s.  They were delighted and so were we!

We have a set of 12 cookbooks with recipes from around the world, a Sesame street set of encyclopedias, and many children’s board books that can’t be ripped.  Don’t forget St. Patty’s Day.  We have several green tops, mugs and a couple of nice green bears.

We are located at 345 Suncook Valley Hwy, Chichester, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4.  Come see what special treasure you can find.
