The numbers are in from the April Days of Sharing for Coos County and surrounding area; 1,618 people served, with articles of new clothing and used. The days of sharing are made possible by Baby Threads of NH, Passumpsic Savings Bank, Laconia Electric and people like you, volunteers and donors.

Last year, we were able to give 100 birthday bags. This year, a hard choice had to be made and we will be doing only Christmas bags. The recession has hit everywhere. We do need new stuffed animals, toys and games for Christmas bags. If you bring in an item, please mark it "For Christmas bags."

On Monday, October 31, we’re having a Halloween Special. All Halloween items are Buy-One-Get-One-Free and all clothes, except winter jackets and hoodies, are B1G1Free (higher priced item pays). Come see us for a spooktacular Monday 8-12! We’re on Rte. 28 in Chichester near the Pittsfield line. Our hours are Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4, and Sat. 10-4.

Please Support Our 5th Annual Food Drive

Many of our area food pantries are in need of assistance and at Chichester Massage we are sponsoring our 5th annual food drive to celebrate National Massage Therapy Awareness Week Oct. 24-29, 2011.

Urgently needed items include: toilet paper, paper towels, personal hygiene items, dish detergent, laundry detergents (smaller quantities to be shared), cleaning products, canned tuna, soups, rice, pasta and sauces, peanut butter, healthy cereals, fresh produce is also welcome.

Chichester Massage will be offering free chair massages on Tuesday, October 25th from 4-7 pm with a monetary or food donation.

Donations will be accepted throughout the week at our office and those who donate 5 or more items or $5 or more will receive a coupon for $10 off a massage. All proceeds will go directly to local food pantries.

Chair massages allow us an opportunity to educate clients with a quick, healthy way to take care of their bodies and reduce stress. At the same time they can help support their local community with a donation. We had a wonderful turnout last year and we’re hoping to have even more participation this year.

This is a great way to help others and reward yourself with a savings on your next massage. Please help us make this food drive a success. Thank you for your support.

In Good Health,

Amy Troy, Cheryl Kollett, Shannon K. Nickerson

Chichester Awarded Grant

Some months ago, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) posted information regarding a grant called "Sharing the Dream". This national request for proposals encouraged projects that create a global awareness for learning. Each year since 2004, MetLife and NAESP have awarded grants for projects representing a diverse group of schools and ideas. Projects are selected based on the principals’ ability to: articulate their vision for parent and community involvement in their schools; explain how their approach is linked to one of the six standards described in NAESP’s benchmark publication (Leading Learning Communities: What Principals Should Know and Be Able To Do, Second Edition); identify data sources to measure involvement throughout the year; and connect their project to student and school success.

This year 25 schools were selected from around the country; Chichester is proud to announce that the grant proposal "Giving Students a Little Latitude" was awarded the $5000 maximum grant allocation. Teachers will use iPad technology to help students gain a more global understanding of the world around them as they investigate real life issues and problems. Presentations will be made during the school year to the School Board and PTO to demonstrate the advances being made here at the school in Next Generation Learning Standards using technology.
