The
Chichester Town Pantry would like to thank Curves of Epsom for
the generous donation from their annual food drive. The pantry
is in need of paper and hygiene items as well as laundry and
detergent products. Canned vegetables and soups are not needed
at this time. The Mail Carrier’s Drive is scheduled for May 8th
from which the town will receive a portion of canned food. We
will soon be asking town churches and organizations to collect
items for Old Home Day. Thank you for the town’s
continued support.

Letter
To the Townspeople of Chichester,
My name is John
Dever, and I have been your Building Inspector for the last
year. I recently have accepted a full time position in another
town, and will no longer be able to serve you. I would like to
thank all of you for the opportunity to work in Chichester. As
has been mentioned several times, I am from Meredith, and one of
the things I have liked about Chichester is that it reminds me
of the Meredith of my childhood, when it was still a very rural
town.
I have been made welcome here, and it has made my job
that much easier. I had large shoes to fill, but with the
support of the other town employees and the Selectmen, my
transition was pretty smooth.
I believe that Chichester,
while being a prime location for future development, will be
able to maintain its rural character well into the future with
the foresight and guidance of the land use boards and residents.
The key to remember is that this is your town, and you can shape
its growth the way you want. You wouldn’t let a builder tell you
what kind of house he will build for you, don’t let others tell
you what your town is going to look like.
Again, thank you
for the opportunity to be part of your town, and I am sure we
will meet again in the future.
Chichester Grange
Chichester Grange met on April 7 upstairs
in the Grange Hall. The evening began with a Turkey Supper,
which raised $74.00 to be donated to State Grange Youth funds
and causes. The supper was followed by a business meeting.
A
seal for sixty years of continuous Grange membership was
presented to Barbara Frangione, and another was mailed to
Leonard Gould in Florida. Wildlife sightings included wild
turkeys, a very large flock of robins, beavers in Chichester and
Pittsfield, two eagles in Alton, chipmunks, woodchucks,
pheasants, turkey buzzards, a skunk, a snake, and a deer.
Barbara Frangione and her daughter gave 13 helmet liners, which
they had knitted and crocheted, to Lecturer Hannah West who will
turn them over to the Pease Greeters. Ideas were discussed for
improvements to the Grange Hall. Preliminary plans were made for
the annual Awards Night on May 5th and a Memorial Day
celebration on May 30th.
Mary West presented the Youth Night
program. Thinking of “habits formed in youth,” members learned
several creative knots for tying shoelaces and sang a humorous
song about brushing teeth.
The next meeting will be on April
21 when two Chichester fourth graders will share their New
Hampshire school projects. Ina Hilliard is in charge of
refreshments.
