50th
Anniversary Locke Lake Celebration
A meeting for the committee for the 50th Anniversary will be held at the
lodge on April 30th at 10:00am. Anyone interested in being on the
committee or helping out in any way, please try to join us. If you
cannot make it that day and still want to be involved, please e-mail:
[email protected]. Different people have expressed interest since a
lot of residents have had their summers here at Locke Lake and have fond
memories of being here. We want to celebrate that and look forward
in having many people attend the cookout and festivities.

Family Movie Night
On Monday, April 25th the library welcomes families to join us at 7pm
for an evening of free family entertainment. Relax and enjoy a great new
movie and some popcorn on us in front of our big screen!
Open Game Night!
Join us on Thursday, April 28th at 6pm for Open Game Night! Build some
cool creations with Minecraft and show off your skills on our brand new
Wii U gaming system donated by the Friends of the Library! Make new
friends and share tips and tricks about the games you love. Please bring
your own laptops or smart devices for Minecraft (if possible), as the
library has a minimal amount of devices to share. Snacks will be
provided, so come on down and enjoy this free event!

Nighthawk Hollow

The Nighthawk Hollow Seniors gathered at the Barnstead Town Hall on
Wednesday, April 6, then went to the home of a member, taking our
lunches with us. There was one guest presetn. We enjoyed a lively
discussion, and everyone enjoyed getting together after the winter
recess.
The club will meet on Wednesday, May 4, at
noon in the Barnstead Town Hall. Please bring a roll of dimes, as we
will play LCR for entertainment. Dues are $4.00. Please bring a bag
lunch and beverage.

Barnstead
Historical Society
The Barnstead Historical Society will hold its
first meeting of 2016 On Thursday, April 28th at 6:30 pm at the
Barnstead Town Hall for a meet, greet and dessert. The meeting will
follow at 7pm. We will be making plans for the summer and fall. If you
have artifacts that you would like to show please bring them along.
We look forward to seeing everyone after the

School-To-Farm Benefit Breakfast

The Belknap County Farm Bureau is holding
their annual School-To-Farm Breakfast on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from
8 am to 11 am. The location is the Barnstead Parade Fire Station at 305
Parade Rd., Barnstead, NH. The cost is your generous donation.
What are School-to-Farm days? This event
brings together 4 th grade students from different elementary schools
throughout the county for a day of learning about the importance of
agriculture. Farmers and professionals are on hand to present
mini-lessons & demonstrations on topics such as beekeeping, sheep
raising, wool carding and spinning, dairy cows, oxen, maple sugaring,
vegetable production, soil ecology and more. WE CANNOT OFFER THIS EVENT
WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT!
So come on out and enjoy a fresh breakfast of
scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, homemade cinnamon - raisin French toast,
locally made maple syrup, coffee & juice. We are very thankful to the
farmers of Belknap County who have generously donated these items (Beans
& Greens, Moulton Farm, Pearl & Sons).
Oh, did I mention that we will have a few
spring lambs here to visit with the children? We thank Ramblin’ Vewe
Farm of Gilford for bringing them!
Obituaries
Harvey R.
Locke, Sr.
Harvey R. Locke, Sr. 94, passed away December
25, 2015, at the Epsom Health Care Center with his daughter by his side.
Born in Barnstead on December 4, 1922, Harvey
was the son of Elias and Elsie (Garrick) Locke.
Harvey enlisted in the US Army in July of 1940 and was stationed in NYC,
where he served in the Military Police and was assigned to the security
division for President Roosevelt at the president’s residence in Hyde
Park. He was then shipped overseas serving in the 4th Armored
Division under General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge.
Harvey returned to Barnstead after the war and worked on the Barnstead
police force. He later formed his own construction company,
building custom homes. He was an avid hunter-outdoorsman, loved
flying and had his own pilot’s license.
He was predeceased by his wife, Althea (Perkins) Locke; his siblings,
Flora, Wallace, Garrick, Ernest and Wesley. He is survived
by his daughter, Judith Phillips and his son Harvey Locke Jr; three
grandchildren, Robert DuMont, Roy Locke, and Denise Corcoran; and
half-siblings, Arlene, Caroline, Patricia, and Wilfred.
A military burial service will be held
April 23, 2016. 2 pm at the Riverview Cemetery, Barnstead, NH.
The family would like to extend heartfelt
thanks to all the people who visited dad and did so much to help him in
his final phase of life.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be
made in his memory to the Earl B. Clark American Legion Post #42, PO Box
293, Barnstead, NH 03218.
