A benefit
Dance is being held on Friday, August 7th, from 7-11 p.m. at the Epsom
Elks to help raise money for medical expenses for Baby Hayden. Hayden
was born with Down Syndrome and a Congenital Heart Condition (full
Atrioventricular Canal Defect) that will require her in the next month
or so to have open heart surgery. Medical expenses add up quickly even
for this hard working family. Please help out this local family in this
difficult time. Mike and Caitlin Shultz would greatly appreciate it.
There will be a DJ, raffles, appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $20

Craft Fair
The Old
Home Week Craft Fair will be held in Alton Bay on August 8 & 9. New
England artisans with handmade wares will be displaying their crafts at
the Alton Bay Community Center and Railroad Square Park on Lake
Winnipesaukee. Unique offerings include custom-made jewelry, fine wood
crafts and furniture, maple products, Northwood Naturals, candles,
soaps, skin care, fudge, duct tape creations, fabrics, quilts, baskets,
books, note cards, photography, leather, floral, bird feeders, wind
chimes, food graters, hand-blended dips, homemade jams and more.
Saturday, August 8 - 9:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, August 9 - 9:00am-3:00pm.

Home Week Celebration
Alton Old
Home Week is scheduled for August 7-16. “Home, History and Harmony” is
the theme of this year’s celebration. Activities include the 5K road
race, weekend craft fair, Barbershoppers, family block party, campfire
and s’mores, Main Street parade, antique boat show, penny sale, chicken
BBQ, band concerts, fireworks, ice cream sundae buffet, scavenger hunts,
dog show, fairy and princess tea party, K9 demo, cribbage tournament,
car show, family bingo, Alton Historical Society open house, 12th NH
Regiment living encampment and visit by President Lincoln, chili
cook-off, dessert contest and more.
Second Ice
Cream Social On August 5
You may
have been one of the few who were not at the Bow Lake Grange Hall, 569
Province Road, Strafford, NH for the first Strafford Women’s Club Ice
Cream Social of the summer, but you still have the chance to make you
own delicious sundae at the second ice cream social at the grange hall
on Wednesday, August 5, from 4:00-8:00 pm (Phone 664-2688).
Small
sundaes cost $2.50 and large are $3.50. Add a homemade brownie for 50
cents. Choose from vanilla, chocolate, and coffee ice cream then build
your sundae from a variety of hot sauces, candies, nuts, fruit, and
whipped cream. Your creativity will result in a delicious concoction
that is beautiful to behold and fun to eat. Add lively conversation
with friends and neighbors and you have the recipe for a fun-filled
evening.
Add to your
enjoyment by participating in the Pick-a-Prize Raffle. Buy your tickets
for $1.00 each and place them in the jars in front of your choice of the
22 raffle prizes donated by community businesses and club members.
August 5 at 7:00 pm winning tickets will be drawn and prizes will be
awarded.
All profits fund two Strafford Women’s Club college scholarships and
other worthwhile community projects. Club members donate most of the
food and supplies. The Strafford Women’s Club thanks all who have
participated in these fund raising events that bring together and enrich
our community.

Prime is a native of Center Barnstead and is pursuing a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing. Kristin will graduate in 2015 from the Manchester,
New Hampshire campus.

Coyne is a native of Epsom and is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy. William
will graduate in 2016 from the Manchester, New Hampshire campus.

McAlister is a native of Loudon and is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy.
Michael will graduate in 2017 from the Worcester, Massachusetts campus.

Doig is a native of Northwood and is pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy.

Nursing. Leah will graduate in 2015 from the Manchester, New Hampshire
campus.
The Dean’s
List recognizes those students with a full-time course load who have
achieved outstanding scholarship with a 3.5 GPA or higher for the
academic term.
Nighthawk
Hollow Seniors
The
Nighthawk Hollow Seniors will meet at 1:00 PM at the summer cottage of
Christine Sanborn on Wednesday, August 5. The cottage is locate at Fire
Lane 10 on Route 28 on Lower Suncook Lake in Barnstead. We will be
enjoying a cookout. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to
share.
Also, bring
swimsuits if you care to swim. Please bring dimes to play LCR. You may
carpool from Route 28 to camp.

Announces Dean’s List For Spring 2015 Semester
The
University of Maine at Farmington announces its Dean’s List for the
spring 2015 semester. UMF maintains a Dean’s List each semester for
those students completing a minimum of 12 credits in courses producing
quality points. Students whose grade point average for the semester is
equal to or greater than 3.8 are listed with high academic achievement.
Students whose grade point average for the semester is less than 3.8 but
equal to or greater than 3.5 are listed with academic achievement. Any
incompletes must be satisfactorily completed before the student is
honored with Dean’s List status. Academic achievement awarded at
commencement is based on all course work taken at UMF.

Gathering
On The Green
The
Gathering On The Green will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015-10AM-3PM
on the Barnstead Parade Church Grounds.
We will be
renting a 20’x15’ space for crafters, yard salers, veggies sale, etc. If
you are interested, please call Jeannie at 269-5441. Please leave a
message and your call will be returned.
The
Gathering is sponored by the Barnstead Parade Congregational Church
Mission’s. Any and all proceeds go to local needs in the community. We
had a wonderful time last year and hope to see you on the greens this
year.
Locke
Laker’s Social Club Enjoys “Christmas” In July
The members
of Locke Lake Social Club had their annual ‘Christmas in July’ chicken
dinner at the lodge. The members enjoyed a free chicken dinner sponsored
by the club. After the dinner, each member participated in a Yankee
Swap. Many laughs were had especially considering some of the gifts that
were passed around.

are Vicki Bednarski and Mary Strong, enjoying their delicious dinner,
and Diane Norton, trying on her ale-gator hat, stating that “ her
grandchildren will love it”.
Next big
event will be the Club Picnic at the pavilion on August 16th at noon.
Those attending are asked to bring their own picnic lunch. Various games
and tournaments will be played and cash prizes will be awarded. Croquet,
cribbage, bean toss, and a few other games are planned. If you plan to
attend please inform Ann Shea 603-393-7233.
It was
voted to have only one business meeting on the second Tuesday of the
month which will be August 11th at 9:30am social time, and 10:00am
business meeting. All members are encouraged to try to make this
meeting. The club is always open to new suggestions for activities that
would be popular.
