BPR Summer Concert Series Kicks Off; Challenged Issued

Barnstead Jason Spooner Band.jpg

The Barnstead Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series gets underway on Saturday, June 20 with an appearance by the Jason Spooner Band.  Hailing from Portland, Maine, this quartet is comprised of Jason Spooner (vocals and guitar), Reed Chambers (drums and percussion), Adam Frederick (bass and vocals) and Warren McPherson (keyboards and vocals).  This band stands out with an interesting signature sound that appeals to a wide range of audiences.  They seamlessly blend a variety of musical instruments and flavors into a cohesive and extremely energetic and listenable experience.  Roots Rock, Americana, blues, folk, groove-oriented jazz, elements of reggae and soul are all accounted for here and supported by strong musicianship, interesting arrangements and intelligent songwriting.

Over the last few years, this dynamic band has performed with acts as varied as B.B. King, John Mayer, Jackson Browne, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Ray LaMontagne, Susan Tedeschi, Jackie Greene, G. Love, Guster, Blues Traveler, Peter Rowan and Sara Bareilles.  Within the last few summers alone, Jason and the band have performed at numerous festivals, including: Targhee Fest; The Gathering of the Vibes; FloydFest; The Festival at Sandpoint; The Naukabout Festival; The River City Roots Festival; The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival; and have been perennial favorites at The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT.  In addition to glowing press in Guitar World Magazine, No Depression, High Times Magazine, Wood & Steel Magazine and USA Today, the band was recently named one of Relix Magazine’s coveted “On the Verge - Bands you should know.”

The band’s latest and fourth album “Chemical” is currently enjoying playtime on SirusXM The Loft and on close to 40 Triple A radio stations nationwide, with their first single “Fireflies” attaining “Top 5 Most Added Tracks” status.  The band is soon to embark on a tour of the western United States.  Clearly this band is going places fast.  Come see them in Barnstead and you can say you saw them when…  You will not be disappointed.

This season BPR is issuing a challenge to area residents.  If you have never been to one of the summer concerts in Barnstead, BPR invites you to come check one out.  Concerts are free of charge and held at 6:00 pm on the Parade Grounds next to the church on Parade Road.  The atmosphere is laid back and family friendly. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to gather with your friends and neighbors on the green.  Kids are free to roam and play, families often toss Frisbees, hula hoop and kick balls around during the shows.  Area groups are on hand selling goodies to snack on.  If you have been to a show and enjoyed it BPR invites you to come again and challenges everyone to bring a friend or another family along to experience the fun.  Ask them to  bring another friend or family too.  BPR’s goal is to double the audiences for this year’s shows.  There is a great line up planned, with shows running each Saturday beginning on June 20 and continuing through August 29.  There’s even a children’s entertainer coming just for the young (and young at heart).

BPR is seeking area groups, churches and non-profits who wish to sell concessions at the shows.  If your group is interested, please email [email protected] for available dates.
