A Memorial Service for Frances Murzin will be held Saturday May 30th at 12:30. Service will be a cookout/potluck and be held at the American Legion Hall on Beauty Hill West in Barnstead, NH. Look for the Balloons.

We will be celebrating and remembering her life doing something she loved. Many have been and enjoyed the countless cookouts she had. If you would like to bring a dish to share that would be great but not necessary.

Families and caretakers of young children will now have the convenience and privacy required in times of need here at the library. The library would like to thank the Congregational Church of North Barnstead Women’s Fellowship for their generous donation, which allowed us to purchase this item which will be utilized and appreciated by our patrons for years to come. During the week of May 5, Teacher Appreciation Week was celebrated in full force at Barnstead Elementary School.  The theme was Hollywood Week, each day having its own feature film and related themed treat.  To kick off the week teachers and staff came dressed in their Hollywood glamorous best.  They then walked the red carpet to have their photos taken and competed to win prizes.  Jennifer Hamel of ImaJenAtion Photography in Barnstead generously donated her time and expertise to the photo booth.  The portraits were displayed throughout the school.  Staff was treated to a Breakfast at Tiffany’s breakfast buffet.  Staff and students voted, and prizes were awarded in the following categories: Best Dressed – Mrs. Hopkins; Most Creative – Mrs. Roberts; Most Colorful – Mrs. Picard; Most Glamorous – Mrs. Hill; Best Hair – Mrs. Bergeron.  The Teacher Appreciation Committee also awarded Mrs. Hamilton with the Best Smile award.  Each winner received an Oscar trophy and a certificate for a free lunch generously donated by White Buffalo and Patriot Pizza.

On Tuesday, the movie of the day was Up and a popcorn bar with plenty of stir-in treats was offered.  Wednesday’s movie of the day, Rio, featured a taco bar lunch with all the fixings and lots of desserts.  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was Thursday’s feature movie, and the treat of the day was a chocolate fountain complete with fun dippable foods and a chocolate river punch. Hidden Golden Tickets were found by Mrs. Miller and Ms. Goossens, who were each awarded a giant milk chocolate bar. The movie for Friday’s grand finale was On Golden Pond.  The staff was presented with a stunning four-tiered Hollywood themed cake baked and hand crafted by Allyson Horr of Barnstead and generously donated by Suncook Valley Chiropractic.

In addition, on Friday the staff was gifted a new Keurig coffee machine, a selection of homemade coffee syrups, a Barista coffee recipe book and many k-cups.  Each staff person received a swag bag filled with candies, a commemorative key chain and a hand molded white chocolate gold-leafed Oscar lollipop.  Finally, each teacher was given a card of appreciation with a Regal Cinema movie ticket enclosed.  The “Frozen Five” team of Timothy Rice, Julie Couch, Kathy Bailey, Mike Hatch and Glen Claflin was acknowledged and awarded with thermal underwear to keep them warm next year.  This hardy crew braved this winter’s frigid elements on a daily basis to direct the new morning drop off traffic, and safely usher students on and off the busses and across Maple Street.

The Teacher Appreciation Committee wishes to recognize and thank the Barnstead area businesses who generously donated to the week’s festivities: Autotool, LLC; BAK Woodworking; Freedom Alarms, LLC; Hannaford of Alton; ImaJenAtion Photography; OSG Paintball; Patriot Pizza; Regal Cinema of Concord; Suncook Valley Chiropractic; The Woods at Beauty Hill; White Buffalo and Wonderful Creations by Virginia Jennings.  In addition, great thanks and gratitude is sent to all the parents, guardians and community members who donated food, money, supplies and time to make this all happen.  Last but not least, a special thank you to the students who created the artwork and decorations displayed within the school during the week.  It was a truly special and uplifting week for everyone involved.
