This is a busy month, as we are collecting new items for ladies,
teenagers, young children and men to be donated to the VA Gift Shop held
at the Manchester VA. The Gift Shop is held yearly for the
residents to shop for their families. Thanks to a generous member,
we are showing our support for the Green Light a Vet campaign. We
encourage the community to join in to show appreciation for our Veterans
every day by displaying a green light, more information can be found at
greenlightavet.com. Lastly, we also will be hosting the annual
Holiday Dinner for the Blind Association of NH on December 10, 2015.
Our meetings will be followed by a Pot Luck
supper and Christmas party. We would like to urge anyone interested in
becoming a member to attend.
Barnstead Festival
of Trees
Pictures with Santa at the Barnstead Festival of Trees this weekend!
The Barnstead Festival of Trees is still looking for more businesses
and citizens to sponsor a tree for $50.00, you decorate it however you
like for a chance to win people’s choice. If you do not want to decorate
your tree, the Festival Committee will find someone to do it for you for
a little extra money. Trees are then voted on by the public and you get
your tree, fully decorated! Or if you prefer, you may donate your tree
and the Barnstead, Laconia and other area Police Departments will bring
it to a family that might otherwise not have a Christmas tree this year.
The Festival all takes place this weekend; November 20, 4-8 PM and
November 21, 1-8 PM. Admission is $5.00 per person or $20.00 for a
family, children under 6 free. The trees are brought from a conservation
farm in Bethlehem, NH and the goal is to have 50 trees set up. (As of
this printing there were 23 ready to be decorated but more than half
still need sponsors) Besides voting for your favorite tree there will be
Pictures with Santa (Saturday), wagon rides, cocoa, cider, Prospect
Mountain Chorus (Friday), a bonfire with marshmallows for toasting, arts
and crafts (Saturday) and opportunities to donate hats, mittens,
scarves, boots and coats at “The Giving Tree.” Pictures of the
winning tree will be posted on Facebook
www.facebook.com/groups/bfestivaloftrees and here in The Suncook
Valley Sun.
All proceeds go to a very worthy cause; the
Greater Lakes Child Advocacy Center and the children and families of
Belknap county. For those who do not know what the advocacy center does,
the best way to explain it is in the sentence “They make it so no child
has to tell their terrible story more than once.” Highly skilled law
enforcement and trained individuals are part of what makes the Advocacy
Center a caring environment for those children who have been victimized
and need to have their words documented so that their cases can go to
trial effectively. The child tells one interviewer who in turn records
the interview, it is then transcribed then submitted for further use in
the court system, making it so the child does not have to retell their
story over and over again.
