Oscar Foss Memorial Library News
Laney Henry
was the winner of the tablet in our raffle during the Touch A Truck
event on Saturday, October 18th. The Touch A Truck event was a HUGE
success with well over 100 people attending! We would like to thank
everyone at the Barnstead Police Dept. who worked so hard to make it
happen. Thanks also to Barnstead Fire & Rescue, Barnstead Highway Dept.,
the NH Dept. of Environmental Services, and Joe Darrah Enterprises for
providing the vehicles the children enjoyed exploring. A big thank you
goes out to Wal-Mart for donating the tablet for our raffle and to
Patriot Pizza for donating the free pizza for the event. This event was
hosted by the Oscar Foss Memorial Library and the Barnstead Police
Department.

2015-2022 Strategic Planning Focus Area Groups
Submitted By
Tim Rice, Principal, Barnstead Elementary School
The BES
Strategic Planning Committee is in the process of updating and
establishing themes or Focus Areas with the goal of recommending “Action
Plans” for the next SAU Strategic Plan. This overall plan will most
likely cover a five-year period from approximately 2015-2020.
The current
thinking is that each Focus Area needs input and participation by groups
of individuals from within the town of Barnstead (students, community
members, and/or staff members) who will represent different points of
view, different parts of our community, and different backgrounds. Input
to a particular Focus Area would involve a commitment to meet
approximately 2-3 times over the next few months. Gathering information,
prioritizing needs, and developing action plans would be the primary
work of each group.
The three
identified Focus Areas include:
1. Teaching
and Learning (e.g. Curriculum Standards, Best Practices, Competencies,
Standards-Based Grading, Special Education, Technology, Extended
Learning Opportunities, Online Learning)
2.
Philosophy, Design, and Governance (e.g. SAU-wide Pre-School;
Instructional Practices; Human Resources/Hiring, Mentoring; Start/End
Time of the School Day; Governance)
3.
Technology and Innovation (e.g. Technology Integration; Social Media;
Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) Solutions; Short & Long Term Planning)
Please
consider becoming a part of this important process that will play an
active role in setting the direction of Barnstead Elementary School and
SAU 86 Barnstead. If you are interested, please contact me at the
Elementary School or send an email to me at
[email protected]. The first meeting is scheduled for Thursday,
November 6, 2014 from 4:30 pm to 6pm pm at the Barnstead Elementary
School Media Center. There are a total of four planned meetings through
December: Thursdays 4:30-6pm on 11/6, 11/13, 11/20, and 12/11.
Thank you
for your consideration.
