The Suncook Valley Sno-Riders have been hard at work
getting our 50 miles of local snowmobile trails ready for the season.
We have made repairs to the 135 foot bridge which spans the Suncook
River behind the Sun River Campground in Barnstead. We also created a
half mile alternate route along our trail between Brindle Pond and the
Barnstead Country Store to avoid a very steep hill many trail riders
have difficulty with. Almost all the trails are ready for the snow. We
are currently working to find a reroute due to a land closure which may
force 5 miles of the state Corridor Trail 17 to close between Barnstead
Parade and eastern Barnstead. As this corridor trail is the primary
route to connect the Sea Coast Region to the Lakes Region we are doing
our best. Come visit us at our meetings. We meet at the Barnstead
Parade Fire Station every first Wednesday of the month at 7pm.

2014 Citizen Of The Year
In August
at the Gathering on the Green, Stuart ‘Twink’ Merrill was awarded
Barnstead’s 2014 Citizen of the Year. Many people know that Twink is a
native of Barnstead and has spent his whole life here. While raising a
family Twink helped to start the Barnstead Historical Society and he has
been a member since. With all of his research on Barnstead he has
written a book on the early families of Barnstead. One Twink’s other
passions was to research the small cemeteries throughout town and to
record who is buried in each. He has also helped neighboring towns in
their cemetery research and inventory. For many years he has also
helped to maintain these small plots of land. Every year Twink will go
to these plots and place a flag on a veteran’s grave.
Barnstead is truly lucky and grateful to have a resident such as Stuart
who has quietly given of his time. Congratulations to Stuart Merrill.

Francis
Gardner of Barnstead, formerly of Cambridge, MA, died suddenly at his
home following a long illness.
Francis was
predeceased by his parents Nancy (Taurisano) and James Gardner of both
Barnstead and Cambridge. He is survived by his brother James and wife
Patricia of Bradford, NH, and his sister Maryanne Martin of Barnstead.
He is also survived by 3 nieces Janet Manning of North Andover, MA;
Jillian Martin and Kimberly Martin of Barnstead, NH; 2 nephews Justin
Martin of Manchester, NH and Gregory Martin of Pembroke, NH; 1 great
nephew Eric Manning of North Andover, MA; and 3 great nieces Abigail
Manning of North Andover, MA and Aurora Martin and Addison Kavanaugh of
Barnstead, NH.
A
celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 30, from 1-4 at
the Locke Lake Colony Lodge in Barnstead, NH.
