On Saturday, August 17, Barnstead Parks and Recreation proudly announces the return of High Range to the concert stage.  An energetic roots/folk/bluegrass group with a long list of rave reviews from national publications, they highlight original music with a mix of cover songs on guitar, upright bass, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and drums. One reviewer is quoted as saying, “High Range has forged a tight, compelling ensemble sound that is highly musical and thoroughly entertaining.”

Bring your lawn chair or blanket, grab your friends and come check out their unique sound for yourself.  As always, smoking and alcohol are prohibited on the Parade Grounds. The Barnstead Summer Concert Series is a free event, and the show starts at 6:00 p.m.  See you there!

Celebrating Anniversaries are: August 14, Dr. Leon and Laverne Bly.

Best Wishes!

Letter To The Editor

The 2nd Annual Barnstead Open Farm Day 2013 was a success. Lots of folks came out to visit our farms and talk with our farmers.

The Barnstead Farmers and Gardeners Network, and our farmers, want to thank the local businesses who were very supportive of our event; Blueberry Station, Clark’s Grain Store, Dominick’s Restaurant and The White Buffalo Trading Post. These folks put out our booklets and give up space on their own business signs to promote this event. We are so grateful for their generosity and support.

We also want to thank the Suncook Valley Arts and Artisans Tour for their support. These talented folks worked hard to make this year’s event a success. Thank you for all that you did.

We are already working on next year’s Open Farm Day, and look forward to offering the public an opportunity to see our farms in operation.

Maple Street Church Dedication

The Dedication Service of the Advent Christian Church d/b/a Maple Street Church, located at 96 Maple Street, Barnstead, NH will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 4:00 pm. The service will be conducted by the church Pastor, Reverend Charles Willson and the guest speaker will be the Reverend Timothy Willson from Palmer, Nebraska. Music will be furnished by the Maple Street Church Musicians, with a special solo by Peter Gestewitz.

The Advent Christian Church formerly located in Alton Bay, purchased the former Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, located at 96 Maple Street and Route 28, in Center Barnstead on October 15, 2012, and moved into the facility conducting its first service on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 11 am and holding services thereafter each Sunday.  This has been an exciting and rewarding move for this little church to be located in the community of Barnstead, NH.  Reverend Charles Willson and his wife Carol have been serving this Church since 2005. Mrs. Carol Willson is currently the music director.

Rev. Charles Willson and his wife Carol, along with the members of the Church cordially invite all residents of the community and the surrounding areas to attend the special Dedication Service on August 18, 2013 at 4:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

Rick Warken Will Be Guest Speaker At CBCC

On Sunday, August 18th Rick Warken will be our guest speaker. Rick has been a missionary with Word of Life since June, 1975. He spent one year in Mexico in language school, and then he and his wife, Linda, took on the task pioneering the WOL ministry in Spain from 1977-1988.

Ministering with groups of young people, predominately students from the Word of Life Bible Institute, Spanish Ministries looks to team with churches’ youth groups and minister in the Sunday schools and services of the church.

This weekend Rick will also be speaking at a Prison Fellowship weekend seminar in the Concord State Prison. Come join us this Sunday and hear what Rick has to share from God’s Word.  Sunday School begins at 9:00 am and Morning Worship follows at 10:00 am.

Barnstead Loon 3.jpg

8 year old Greta Wiborg, took these photos one morning on Upper Suncook Lake and thought you would enjoy them.  She has a love for photography and loons!  Often times, the loons come calling and she responds with an impressive loon call of her own. (which she has been perfecting since the age of 3.)
