Barnstead Master Plan Moving Forward

Good news about the Barnstead Master Plan. The 2012 update has been funded and the Master Plan Committee is in the process of signing on local experts to help with information gathering and analysis.

For greater efficiency, the committee has slightly expanded the sections to be addressed this year. The categories to be included are: 1) Vision, 2) Land Use/Economic Development and 3) Transportation/Public Facilities. As a result, the 2012 update will contain all the mandatory content needed for a complete Master Plan as specified by state guidelines. If desired, other sections (e.g., recreation, conservation, etc.) can be added at the town’s discretion, based on current budgetary considerations.

Also, three potential new members of the committee attended the April meeting. The group hopes to attract a few more new participants in coming months. Activities include assisting in the development of questionnaires, soliciting insights from town leaders, leading public meetings, and writing the final Master Plan itself.

Online information will be available soon at the upcoming Master Plan web page. Meetings are held every second Wednesday at 7:00 pm, at the Barnstead Parade Fire Station. The public is welcome.

To contact the committee, email [email protected], or call the Barnstead Town Hall.

The Barnstead Community Market (BCM), a co-op at your fingertips, will be open for business on Friday, May 4th from 1 – 7 pm. There will be an Open House on Saturday, May 5th from 9 am – 4 pm.

The BCM is a member operated cooperative where each individual vendor shares in the running of and in the expenses. Member vendors vary from potter to alpaca products to a printmaker to a bread maker. Future potential members may be soap makers, weavers, quilters, etc. By joining together we want to bring local products to Barnstead and to the area. Come June we will be hosting a Farmers Market every Friday from 4 – 6:30 pm.

Members Jim and Bonnie Kidder, Elaine Koptev and Irene Derosier have been working since January, planning, painting and getting the space ready.

The shop is located at 13A Parade Road, Barnstead, NH at the intersection of Routes 28 and 126, in the yellow building right next to Kidders Repair Service. Shop hours will be Friday 1 to 7 pm, Saturday 9 am to 4 pm and Sunday noon to 4 pm.
