Letter To The Editor

NH Needs An Online Driver Ed Option

Now that the driver ed bill (HB 1440) has passed the NH House 240-74 with bi-partisan support, it heads to the Senate. As the prime sponsor I’d like to clear up some misunderstandings about the bill.

First, the purpose of the driver ed bill is to make our roads safer by allowing an affordable (under $75) online driver ed option. Currently teenagers, who aren’t able to pay for a driving school course, are waiting until age 18 to get their license, because at age 18 they aren’t required to take driver ed.

These teens never learn that speed kills. They never learn how to avoid distracted driving. They never learn how to scan the road for hazards. Do we want them driving our roads not knowing these things? That just isn’t safe!

Second, high-quality online driver ed courses, such as the ones the NH Department of Safety would approve, are completely secure. It is impossible to cheat on these courses and students must score 90% or better on the test for each level before advancing to the next level.

There are seven levels in all. In addition, these courses will be customized for NH and will include the most up-to-date, cutting edge, driver education information.

Third, insurance companies give discounts for approved, high-quality online programs with parents providing behind-the-wheel training. Insurance companies, who are experts at assessing risk, know parents will do a great job providing behind-the-wheel training after they complete their own online course on how to teach their teenager to drive.

Last, driving schools will continue to stay in business. Driving schools will always be in demand. The students most likely to choose the online option aren’t even potential driving school customers, because they can’t afford a $500 to $900 driving school course. HB 1440 expands the driver education market. It makes our roads safer by encouraging more teens to choose to become educated in this vital area.

Tools For Successful Navigation Of The Teen Years In Education And Life

Join us on March 31 and April 7, 2012 from 9 am to 1 pm to learn skills to empower our students (and selves) to live the life we want.

For 8 hours, Prospect Mountain High School, in Alton NH, will be transforming the lives of today’s teens. Often heard is the expression, if I had only known then, what I know now, how different would my life be! Why not give the teens of today, who are the leaders of tomorrow, exactly that information. End the cycle of turbulent, angst-ridden teen years, and empower our students to accept they have the power within themselves to create the reality they want.

Our media bombards us with information about Bullying, Teen Suicide, Drug and Alcohol use, teen pregnancy. Our schools are a 8 hour a day impact on the lives and minds of our children. Do you like the message they are getting from their peers? You can change what your student chooses to allow into their lives. You can change what the major focus of their educational time is.

Parents/Family and Educational Professionals, why not take this time to:

Learn how to communicate with today’s teen (it is certainly different then how we communicated with our parents).

Empower students to make better choices and to create the life that will serve them well.

Find what kind of student they are and how they learn, and how to make it work for them.

How to take "stress" and make it positive energy and a tool for success.

For parents with students with "exceptionalities" there will be a certified ADHD coach to show you and your student how to take the "disease" and make it a difference. Learn how to study and manage your ADHD brain and the time schedule it keeps.

How to advocate for your child without being an adversary.

For Students

Learn how to find your passion, and then make your career choices that will make your life shine.

How to study for and properly prep for tests, exams and the SATs.

Learn how you learn, what works best and what will help you succeed.

Note taking, it’s not fun but it is necessary, and how to make it work for you.

Learn how to talk to your parents so they hear what you are saying.

Live the life you want and learn how to create the future you desire.

Learn how to make the choices that are in conjunction with the life you want.

Learn how to change your perception, despite the discomfort and create your success.

Pre-registration is kindly requested to allow presenters to gather adequate materials and to get the sessions you want. The cost $20/day or $35 for both sessions Mastercard/Visa accepted $25 at the door (seating not guaranteed).

For registration or questions, contact us at 848-6952, [email protected] or find us on Facebook at facebook/yourperceptions.

The Suncook Valley Art And Artisan Tour – Call For Entries

Last fall, a group of artists in the Suncook Valley area met to plan our own open studio tour. We are excited to announce the creation of the Suncook Valley Art and Artisan Tour, and are pleased to invite local fine artists and artisans to participate in this summer’s first annual open studio show and sale on Saturday, July 21, 2012, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

We would like to keep the open studios within easy driving distance of the Route 28 corridor between Alton and Hooksett, NH. For those wishing to participate who might be outside of this immediate area, or those who prefer not to open their private studios, the Barnstead Town Hall will be available for booth setup. The Town Hall will also serve as a home base for the tour, providing tour maps, open studio information, and artist bios.

Entry deadline is May 31st with an entry fee of $25.00

For more information and registration please contact Steve Winchester at (603)-269-2720 or by e-mail to [email protected]
