BARC News

Gov. Rick Perry (TX) Appointee, Tom Pauken, To Speak
The ‘On Deck 2012’ Speaker Series has announced an event to be held in the Lakes Region at J.J. Goodwin’s Restaurant, 769 Suncook Valley Highway (Rt 28), Center Barnstead, NH on Saturday, August 6 at 12 noon.  There is no charge for this event.

Tom Pauken, the Chairman of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), which administers state unemployment compensation benefits, will be the guest speaker.  Mr. Pauken was appointed to this position by Texas Governor Rick Perry in March 2008, after having previously served as Chairman of the Texas Task Force on Appraisal Reform (TFAR), another appointment by Governor Perry, in 2006.

Mr. Pauken has been actively involved in Texas Republican politics for over 30 years, having served in the Reagan administration in the 1980’s, and as Texas Republican Chairman in the 1990’s. He is the author of two books, most recently one entitled “Bringing America Home / How America Lost Her Way and How We Can Find Our Way Back”.  Mr. Pauken has been quoted as saying “….As former chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, a former member of the Reagan administration and a conservative, grassroots activist for more than four decades, I have been unequivocal in my support for conservative tax reform….”.  Mr. Pauken will be discussing his ideas about what our country needs to do to get its economy back on track.

Presidential Candidate Cong. Thad McCotter To Speak

The “On Deck 2012” Speaker Series is featuring an event to be held in the Lakes Region at J.J. Goodwin’s Restaurant, 769 Suncook Valley Highway (Rt 28), Center Barnstead, NH on Sunday, August 7, at 6 pm.  There is no charge for this event.

Presidential Candidate Congressman Thaddeus “Thad” McCotter will be the guest speaker.  Congressman McCotter, representing Michigan’s 11th Congressional District, recently announced his candidacy for President of the United States.  Rep. McCotter was elected to the Wayne County [Michigan] Commission in 1992, to the Michigan State Senate in 1998, and then continued moving up the “food chain” by being elected to Congress in 2002.  He has been re-elected to Congress in 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010. Rep. McCotter will share his views on the operation of the federal government and the economy, and his plans if/when elected to put our country on sound financial and ideological footing.

“On Deck 2012” is a Belknap County/Lakes Region Republican initiative to provide ‘up close and personal’ opportunities for Presidential hopefuls and other influential leaders to stop, meet, and greet local residents during the next year and a half, leading up to New Hampshire’s First in the Nation Primary and the November, 2012 Presidential election.  We are working with candidates’ campaigns to suggest key stopping points in Belknap County and the Lakes Region at small businesses/restaurants/diners in our local communities to meet & greet local voters along these routes.  If you’re interested in being included as an ‘On Deck 2012’ stop, please email [email protected] or call 603-364-9780.

Belknap County Democrats
August Meeting

The Belknap County Democrats will hold their monthly general meeting on Wednesday, August 10, at 6:30 PM at the community meeting room of the Laconia Police Department, 126 New Salem Street, Laconia.

We will be holding the election for a new Belknap County Democrats Chair.  All registered Democrats are eligible to run or to vote.

This meeting will also be our 2012 Kickoff Strategy Session.  What do we need to do to win next year?  What steps should we take now and into the new year?  In preparation, we ask you to do two things:

1. Speak to two of your neighbors or friends.  Ask them what they think the Democratic party in your town and county should be doing.  What can Democrats do that would make our party attractive to them and make them interested in voting Democratic or working with us?

2. Think about who you think should be running for State Senate, State House of Representatives, and county offices.  We value your input and recommendations.  Ask someone who you think should run if she or he is interested in being a candidate.  Tell us what you hear.

For more information, call Ed Allard at 366-2575.
