Barnstead Library News
We are offering a fine-free period at the library in the spirit of
helping our neighbors. The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center
Barnstead is joining forces with the food pantry and offering a
fine-free period starting December 1st and continuing until January
31st.
Instead of any late fees we are asking you to donate a non-perishable
item to our Donation Box, which is set up in the Library at the front
desk. And remember, many of our patrons don’t have a fine at the
library, but just donate. We are grateful to all.
All
items must be nonperishable, must be sealed and must
not be expired. Please check the dates. We would appreciate an
extended expiration date if possible. We want to send only quality,
in-date items which will truly help out a Barnstead family. Jars of
spaghetti sauce, canned fruit or vegetables, pasta, crackers, cereal and
more. The list is endless and there is also a need for toiletry items
such as toilet paper, floss, shaving cream, soap, diapers, kleenex, etc.
Thank you all.
In need of a last minute Christmas gift?
Don’t forget that the library sells the History of Barnstead by Jeremiah
P. Jewett, M.D. which covers the years 1727 to 1872. This hardcover book
sells for only $15 and would make just the right gift for the historian
in your family. We also have a number of very gently used hardcover and
paperback books for sale. Stop by the library and see what we have to
help fill out your Christmas list. Happy Holidays!
Angel Tree: It Starts With A Gift… It Leads To Lives Transformed By
Christ
Right now, an estimated 1.5 million children have a mom or dad in
prison. The number is huge – but so is the opportunity.
Angel Tree is a ministry of Prison Fellowship that reaches out to the
children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. It seeks
to transform the lives of these families and to reconcile them to their
Heavenly Father as well as to each other. In Matthew 18:5 Jesus said,
"Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me."
Angel Tree provides an opportunity to connect the inmate with their
family during the Christmas season. Through Angel Tree, these children
are able to feel a parent’s love, despite their absence. Throughout the
month of November Center Barnstead Christian Church and its members will
purchase gifts to deliver to the children of inmates in their parent’s
name.
If you would be interested in helping provide gifts for these children
or have any questions please call the church at 269-8831. Donations of
money need to be in by December 7th and gift purchasers should have
gifts back to the church by December 14th. The Center Barnstead
Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall.
