Ceremony At The Center Barnstead Bandstand

John J. Jenkins, builder of the bandstand in 1937, will be honored at a ceremony, at the bandstand, on Saturday, September 18 at 3:00 p.m.


The bandstand is located next to the firehouse in the Center. A plaque will be unveiled and a  reception will follow in the Barnstead Town Hall.


Donald Jenkins and Edith (Jenkins) Mitchell, children of John J. Jenkins, family and friends will be in attendance. All are Welcome.


The Barnstead Historical Society is sponsoring the event. The “Bandstand Project” included repairs and painting. Further improvements are planned. We are looking forward to the return of the “Glory Days” when band music will be performed in the bandstand. Donations to the “Bandstand Project” will be, gratefully, accepted. Send to: F.J. 2010 Artist Showcase At The Barnstead Library


The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead is currently displaying the nature and landscape watercolors by local artist Susan Hagner of Concord. Please come by to view her artwork through September. On display throughout October will be the oils and acrylics of artists Dick Pratt and Frank Curatolo of Chichester. Then, in November, Judy Doughty of  Nottingham will display her pastels and watercolors. For more information, please call the Library at 269-3900.

Retirement Celebration for Chief George “Rusty” Krause


Fire Chief George “Rusty” Krause retired as Chief of Barnstead Fire Rescue on April 1, 2010 after fifteen years as Chief of Barnstead Fire Rescue and in his 41st year of service to fire protection and emergency medical services in the town of Barnstead. 

 
A celebration of the Chief’s retirement will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Barnstead Fire Rescue Station 1, located at 305 Parade Rd. in Barnstead.


A presentation of retirement awards will be made at 2:00 p.m. All residents of Barnstead, members of area fire departments, friends and relatives are invited to attend to wish the Chief a very happy retirement. 

 


Obituaries


 

Mark Hingston


Barnstead, NH - Mark Hingston, 55, of Barnstead, NH, passed away on September 8, 2010, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, after a lengthy and extremely courageous battle with cancer.


He was born in Laconia, NH, on October 12, 1955, attended Pittsfield, NH, schools and graduated with a MA from the University of New Hampshire. He worked as a stonewall craftsman with Jean Stimmell of Northwood, NH, and as a Construction Supervisor for R.C. Foss, Eckman Construction and Whitcher Builders.


Mark was a devoted father and husband who dearly loved his family. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors in all seasons, hiking, fishing and camping.


He is survived by his wife Leslie (O’Meara) Hingston; and three children, Ryan,  Alexa and Anna; his parents, Richard Hingston and Barbara (Dustin) Arnold; 2 sisters, Amy Baldwin and Toby Blank; several nieces; and nephews; many devoted and loving friends.


Mark was a treasure to all and will be most sadly missed.


A Funeral Service was held on  Monday, September 13, 2010, at the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield with Rev. Dave Stasiak, pastor, officiating.


Interment followed at Riverview Cemetery in Barnstead, NH.


Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Hingston Benefit Account, c/o Citizens Bank, Pittsfield, NH 03263.


Arrangements were in the care of Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, Alton, NH.
