Letter To The Editor
Christmas 2010
We live
in days of sin, sorrow, and tribulation; we see around us the wars and
violence that mark the land and hearts of many. We hear of drought
and famine, of floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and pandemic
disease.
No!
This is not exactly our world today, similar, but not exactly the same.
The previous paragraph was written in the bible several thousand years
ago by the Prophet Habakkuk 3:1-6.
Take a
moment with me to reflect on the meaning of this season, peace on earth
and joy to the world.
Why do
we see so many smiles at this time of year? Why am I smiling?
Is it too farfetched to believe that the miracle of love and light could
spread from month to month until throughout the year we share the same
smiles, warmth, and compassion for all people everywhere?
Is it
possible that the poor could find food and shelter? That the
lonely could find companionship? That the bereaved could find
comfort? That the frightened could find peace? That the sick
could find health? That the hopeless could find hope?
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, let me leave you with this
thought: God has no hands but yours this season. A
demonstration of charity and love is better then a definition of them.
I’m
smiling because, in short, I’m celebrating you as a group of people.
Your commitment....Your cooperation....Your charity....As you do your
part to make the sentiment of the season last.
Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God bless each of you.
