I Gravity
Isaac Newton as smart as can be
Discovered gravity under the apple tree.
Galileo who had two rocks he found
Dropped them and at the same time hit the ground.
Though they didn’t know each other
They shared the same thoughts with one another.
That is how it came to be
That they made history.

Barnstead Old Home Day
Fair Food At Its Best!

Barnstead Old Home Day Pancake Breakfast will be served again this year on Saturday, August 29, by Barnstead Fire Rescue.  Last year’s breakfast was absolutely delicious and was a sell-out! Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes (plain and blueberry) and each meal price includes one serving each of maple syrup, sausage or bacon, orange juice and coffee. All this, for only $6.00 per adult and $3.00 per child.  Breakfast will be served under the tent on the Parade Grounds from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Get there early so you won’t miss out!

The vendors at Old Home Day are Barnstead area not-for-profit community organizations and they appreciate your support when you purchase the delicious fair food they prepare. There will be a wide variety of tempting foods available, including hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage sub sandwiches, chicken fingers, French fries, blueberry cake, cotton candy and lemonade. Live a little and indulge in some great food!

Barnstead’s Old Home Day includes a very unique event called the Cakewalk.  Cakewalk contestants pay an entry fee of one dollar to walk around a circle of numbered Frisbees. Music is played…the contestants circle…the music stops… a number is drawn.  The person who is standing at the Frisbee with the same number as that just drawn gets to take their pick of any of the scrumptious baked goods laid out on the long table!  A sweet treat, indeed!

The Cakewalk is a lot of fun and draws a lot of contestants. It depends, however, on the donation of numerous baked goods from members of the community. You can help by volunteering to bring your own favorite confection.  Any home-baked or store-bought dessert is welcome – it doesn’t have to be a cake. Donations can be brought to the bandstand on Barnstead Old Home Day, August 29, at Barnstead Parade. Please have donated baked goods at the bandstand by 10:30 a.m.

Don’t forget to save room for the chicken barbeque dinner! The Suncook Valley Sno-Riders are preparing and serving the Old Home Day Dinner at the Parade Fire Station from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Dinner will be delicious barbequed half chicken, served with Flanders Beanhole baked beans, salad, rolls, beverage and dessert.  Advance tickets can be purchased at Arnies Auto Repair, 6 Cedar Drive, Barnstead, 269-4730 or at Rte. 28 Bakery and Dairy Bar, 267 Suncook Valley Highway, Chichester, 435-8081.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $8.50 for adults, $5.00 for children ages 6-12, and children five and under will be free.  Tickets may also be purchased at the door of the Parade Fire Station for $10.00 for adults, $6.00 for children ages 6-12, and children five and under will still be free. This is going to be a fantastic dinner -get your tickets early, before they sell out!

Letter To The Editor

My husband was bitten by a tick at the base of his neck in July 2000. Bull’s-eye by Aug.

The Dr. claimed he would entertain Lyme Disease if we lived closer to the coast. He claimed that there were no Lyme Disease cases in Barnstead or Center Barnstead. I am curious if any cases were diagnosed in the area of Suncook Lake. Please call 364-8544 with any information during that time frame.

Presently my husband is being treated with Alzheimer’s without typical symptoms.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Janet Aversa
