Weather permitting, the season begins on June 18th for the Locke Lake Golf League. All Locke Lake members are welcome to join this adult group. Groups of four are challenged weekly to different events and play twice around for their total score. Tee time - Thursdays @ 9:00 a.m.


A one time fee is collected at the beginning of the season to cover expenses of awards and the barbeque in September.

OFML 2009 Summer Reading Program Registration


Barnstead’s Oscar Foss Memorial Library invites you and your children to join us for the 2009 Summer Reading Program, supported  in part by a grant from the NH State Library and donations from the Byrne Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell Benevolent Trust, and the NH Library Association. This year’s theme is “Summertime... and the Reading is Easy,” designed to encourage reading for pleasure in a relaxed, fun environment. Read for six weeks and enjoy summertime fun, too!


Kids, teens and adults, come be a part of all the activities: six weeks of crafts and activities planned for each Tuesday morning, 10 a.m. to noon; see a local play in week 6 (pre-registration required); enjoy a SRP Finale Performance on August 11th; weekly challenges/prizes; Kids Cuddly Raffle; Teen Candy & Ice Cream Raffle Basket; Adult Movie Night Out Raffle Basket; Ice Cream Social and lots of new books and audio books for all ages!


Sign up/Registration begins Monday, June 15th and ends Saturday, June 27th. The first book must be recorded by July 3rd, and the last book must be recorded by August 8th. Signup and decorate a hot air balloon to fly in the library! For every book or equivalent, participants get a raffle ticket towards the final drawing, and add a summertime hot air bubble to fill the giant hot air balloon! Those kids and teens who complete the six-book minimum or equivalent will receive a SRP prize packet and a reading certificate.

Busy Women In North Barnstead

Barbara Moulton, President of the Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church of North Barnstead (UCC) along with over 15 other women in the community are busily making plans for the year. The fundraising activities such as bake sales, participating in Old Home Day, and the Fellowship’s annual Pumpkin n’ Pine Fair in November.


Other activities include an annual retreat in July, a candlelight service in the fall, as well as participation in the state-wide United Church of Christ’s Women’s Fellowship Meeting in October.


Meetings are held in different women’s homes monthly, often with a program of some sort. All women in the community are invited to participate. In  May, Dot Wenblad, who has no electricity and lives on a road not maintained by the town, spoke on “Living Off the Grid” at Connie Mitchell’s home.


The June meeting will be at Barbara Moulton’s home in Alton.  For further  information call Barbara at 875-5651.

Jeremy & Beth Everson


Jeremy & Beth Everson will be visiting with the Center Barnstead Christian Church this Sunday, June 7th. Jeremy will be speaking during the 9:00 AM Morning Service and the 10:15 AM Adult Sunday School Class. The Everson family are missionaries with New Tribes Mission in Chihuahua, Mexico. They are in the process of learning the Spanish and Mexican national culture in preparation for a ministry of spreading the Gospel to the unreached and remote peoples of this country. So far, they have completed one year of this preparation and hope to be finished within one more year. Come this Sunday and hear more about how God is working in this family’s life.  First Friends Of Suncook River Can Drive A Success!

FOSR hosted a Can Drive Clean Up during the week of May 4th. Enough cans were collected between the Barnstead collection location and the Epsom Can Trailer location to nearly fill the Can Trailer! The FOSR Recycle for a Better Environment Can Trailer is permanently located at Webster Park on Rt. 28 in Epsom.


Sarah Bilodeau of Barnstead won a Friends of the Suncook River t-shirt and a ½ gallon of locally made maple syrup for her efforts. Obituaries


 

Ella Mae (Dame) Moore


Ella Mae (Dame) Moore passed away peacefully in her sleep at 1:50 AM (PDT) on Sunday, May 31st, 2009, at the age of 89.


She had been residing at Barton Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility in South Lake Tahoe, California, for the past two years.


Her husband, George W. Moore, passed away in 1979.


She is survived by her daughter, Dianne (DeeDee) Moore of South Lake Tahoe, California; and her son, Bradley Moore, of Long Beach, California.


Ella Mae was born in Loudon, New Hampshire, on November 24th, 1920, but grew up in Center Barnstead.


While doing defense work in Massachusetts during WWII, she married and soon returned to Barnstead Parade until moving to Tujunga, California, in 1951.


She resided in Tujunga until August, 2007. While visiting her daughter in South Lake Tahoe, California, she fell and was not able to return to her home in Tujunga.

 


 

Sheila A. Semeraro


Center Barnstead - Sheila A. (McIntire) Semeraro, of Center Barnstead and formerly of Burlington, Mass., a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen the morning of Saturday, May 23, 2009. The wife of Joseph J. Semeraro, she was 72 years old.


Sheila was born in Cambridge, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude McIntire. She was raised and educated in Watertown, Mass.


In 1962, Sheila and her husband settled in Burlington, where they raised their five sons. Sheila received an associate degree from Cardinal Cushing College. She worked as a bus driver for Fiore Bus. She also worked as a secretary for Travis Associates and Raytheon. Sheila was very involved with the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts in Burlington. She was the head den mother for Pack 525. She was a talented seamstress, and she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Sheila and her husband moved to Center Barnstead in 1999. Her most important role in life was that of wife, mother and grandmother. Sheila and her husband, Joe, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 13.


Sheila was the beloved wife of Joseph J.; loving mother of Joseph Jr. and his wife, Sheila, of Billerica, Mass., Thomas and his wife, Debra, of Groton, John and his wife, Tammy, of Burlington, Paul and his wife, Jennifer, of Pepperell, Mass., and Robert and his wife, Sara, of Burlington; sister of the late Paula Oliver; and grandmother of Zach, Danny, Mac, Crosby, Jake, Maddie, Gabby, Johnny, Nicole, Vanessa, Alex, Katie, Emma, Gina, Anthony and the late Morgan.


A funeral service was held Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.


A Mass of Christian burial followed at St. Margaret's Church, Burlington.


Interment was in Pine Haven Cemetery in Burlington.


Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, Mass. 02472.
